Hello,
That resonates with me. In late April 2022 there was a stretch of downhill to Zubiri that was treacherous. Sharp-edged narrow rocks separated by spaces where a misplaced ankle might suffer some real damage. I was very grateful to get through that area. We heard that there were several...
Hi Andy,
Wow, can I relate to your comment about medications! I was 68 in April/May of 2022 on my CF Camino and a three time cancer survivor with other chronic health problems, as well. I had two mesh bags of medications, one for morning meds and one for evening meds. In addition, I had my pouch...
So excited for you, Kiwi Bob! I left on April 28th, 2022 on my CF Camino. It was life-changing and a beautiful time of year to walk in the springtime. I am older and had some health issues but I experienced grace taking one day at a time. God bless you on your journey ahead and Buen Camino!
Daniel
Greetings,
I highly recommend using hiking poles - they were a real help to my knees and added safety on occasional steep rocky downhills.
I echo the suggestions to have rubber tips to prevent the click click on hard surfaces. I walked the CF in late April and May and it was beautiful to witness...
Greetings,
I wish you well on your Camino. I was 68 in 2022 and left SJPdP on April 28th. I chose to bring my 40 degree bag and I was glad that I did. All God’s blessings on you and Buen Camino,
Daniel
I took a light sleeping bag and a liner on the CF starting in April 2022. It worked out well and there were many cooler nights where I felt snug and comfortable in my sleeping bag. May God bless you on your journey!
Buen Camino,
Daniel
Warm greetings,
Best wishes to all in this coming new year! I am hoping to walk the St. Francis Way from Assisi to Rome this year. My Camino de Santiago journey in 2022 was an incredible blessing to me and I hope for grace in this pilgrimage, as well.
Can anyone advise me about their...
Hi Michael,
You’re so right to consider what socks to bring. It’s also true that there are many different socks that have worked for different people. My experience is that Wright socks have been very good for me. They have a built in liner to prevent friction and to avoid blisters. With the...
Greetings,
Hiking shoes/boots are such a subjective choice but here is my experience. I walked the CF in late April - early June 2022. I began in Altra Lone Peaks. I really liked them while training at home in Ohio, U.S.A. Although they were great at home they were the wrong shoes for me on the...
Greetings Joe,
Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Camino community. I was 68 last year when I walked the Camino Frances and was not an accomplished long distance hiker, although I recommend practicing walking regularly with your backpack to help make the beginning of your journey more...
Warm greetings, Danielle and Derrick,,
My friend and I walked the Camino Frances last spring. I brought rain pants and he didn’t. I really appreciated staying dry, especially when the weather was cooler. As the rain pants were very light to carry, it worked out well for me. They also can help...
Greetings,
So happy for you regarding your upcoming Camino! I walked the CF from SJPP beginning late April last year. It was cold and rainy in the Pyrenees, and then cold in the early mornings until the Meseta, where it was hot. Layers, including a long sleeve thermal sweatshirt, worked for me...
