Re: Texas Pilgrims?
I walked the camino from Leon to Santiago in early May 2013. My best advice to you would be to do a lot of hiking in hills with full backpack on before going. I trained a lot before going on flat land, and was unprepared for the hills in Spain.

If you haven't trained walking up and down hills, the hike will be extremely hard. We are from Texas, where there are no hills to train on. The hike was a killer for us every day. Hiking on flat ground is practically worthless, other than to get you used to wearing a backpack.

We just finished our walk from Leon to Santiago on the 16th of May. We were always finished with our walk by 2PM and never had any trouble finding a place to sleep. Some of the places we stayed were Astorga, Poncebadon, Ponferrada,O Cebreiro, Rabanal, Portomarin and Sarria.
I'm Bill from Dallas, Texas. I will be traveling from Leon to Santiago in early May 2013. All of the posts are a great help in planning the trip. I've been recruiting friends and family to travel with me to no avail, so I will be going solo. Hope to see you on the trail.
I am Bill from Dallas, Texas. I will be 68 when I start from Leon in the first week of May 2013.
I have been recruiting friends to make the trek with me, but so far no luck.
My wife says I can't go alone, but I figure to make friends along the way. I have already started training.
