Agree with the others. There are no additional brownie points for suffering and pretending to be poor, if your budget can afford better. I will do the Camino in 2014, and I plan to do hotels and B&B's. More comfort at night means better trekking during the day. I, too, need alone time and am...
I never said it was about the Camino - which is why I provided the link so people could read the reviews and such before purchasing.
It is about the father/son relationship, and the journeys - both metaphysical and actual - that they have shared in over 40 years together. Including making The Way.
I provided the link in my msg above...glad to be of assistance. I ordered it, too. While it's not *just* about the Camino trip, I think for us Camino-hungry people, it will be an interesting read.
PS: Just one additional note on the book, as listed on Amazon. When I keyed in Martin Sheen in...
I just may have you beat...I bought the DVD - mostly cuz I wanted the commentary included in the Special Features. Lots of inside info about the making of the film.
It also mentions in the credit section on the DVD that Sheen and Estevez have a new book out together...a journal of the trip...
Congratulations on your fantastic achievement!
Funny, I was just thinking about Ibuprofen yesterday....I was going to bring a big bottle, but I guess I don't need to. ;-)
Re: Heights-Vertigo - for over 60
Michael:
THANK YOU! :-) What part of Alaska? I lived 2 years in Eagle River, before coming back to Canada and landing in Whitehorse. What brought you to the other side of the world??
Your encouragement was terrific - I've had such miserable luck with the...
In a word - Yes!
Despite being well travelled (including some in Spain), and despite being more-or-less Catholic - I had never heard of the Camino until February 25, 2012. I had been to Rome, Jerusalem, but the only Santiago I had heard of was in Chile!
Feb. 25-- I was relaxing after dinner...
Thank you for suggesting Eva Cassidy's music. I went to iTunes and listened to excerpts and love her voice.
This makes 2 artists I have ''discovered'' in just 3 days (the other being Oliver Schroer), to be included in my Camino list....who are deceased. Makes me sad, as now that I have found...
I've been fiddling with different playlists, making a few for the Camino, for different moods, etc. But the beat - and the lyrics, if pertinent - will keep me going.
I've added a few things from iTunes, such as 3 tunes from "The Way" soundtrack (Thank U (Alanis Morisette), Lost! (Coldplay)...
Thanks for the adapter info....but my next question is...where are you planning to plug it into the wall? The auberges/refugios aren't private, and with 30 people in a room, I am sure there won't be enough outlets for everyone to recharge things. Plus, are you going to trust your item, alone...
Not to be a spoil-sport...but where will you be able to recharge the iPod battery en route?
I have an iPod Shuffle - one of those little 1"x1" things that holds 250 songs...but it needs a USB port to recharge.
And I don't plan to bring my laptop. Because the issue remains - where to plug in...
I note your post is 2 yrs old! But just today, CBC (Canada's national radio station) played a one hour special on Oliver's Camino walk, featuring the music he made and recorded himself in various churches (without audiences....) along the route.
Here's the link...
Music recorded right in Camino churches (link provided)
In 2004, a Canadian violinist, Oliver Schroere, walked the Camino with his violin in his backpack, stopping in churches and cathedrals en route to play. Without audiences - just him, creating music, in historical and religious places...
I appreciate your view, and you are welcome to it, but you are in no position to say which I (or anyone else) suffers from. I believe the psychological can cause the physiological, as well, which further muddies the water. That I have done so much that involves heights, I know there are...
