    Tipping

It’s not usually expected but we always tip generously. The Spanish people have been hurt badly by the epidemic. Help them to recover by tipping generously. It’s MUCH appreciated.

Very well put! I like it!

    Jesus and the Money Lenders

The Spanish economy is in serious trouble. I am in favor of the people working to earn money from the tourist trade in order to support themselves and to pay for maintenance of the trails which take a terrible beating from the peregrinos. Be generous to local people while you are a guest in...

Walking a Camino is a Very Selfish Act - Isn't it?

Time for the SELF is not a bad thing. Remember that you cannot take care of others until you take care of yourself first. Even airline strwards tell us to put on our own oxygen mask FIRST before helping another! So go for it and stop feeling guilty for taking care of yourself.

    What would you do?

No contest: definitely Queenstown NZ. And while on the South Island, make a side trip to Milford Sound, the Eighth Wonder of the Natural World!

Thanks to those that don't walk and stay home

Yes, indeed. My husband hates hiking, so he stays home and feeds the cats.

Is it hot in here to you? A thread for Sharing Tips for Hot Blooded persons!

I also cannot stand the heat, so I only hike El Camino in April and in October. This April has been very cool and to my liking.

    Time Shifting

Thanks for the suggestions. Since I only hike about 10 miles per day, I don't usually need to hit the trail until around 9am. Certainly no later. And I do not drink el vino so no debydration problems from that practice.

    Time Shifting

I live on the East Coast of the US and therefore lose 6 hours when traveling to Spain. In order not to be a complete wreck on the first few days of my camino, I attempt to "time shift" while still at home. I do this by getting up 5 minutes earlier every morning for 36 days prior to departure...

    Lightweight Wrap Skirt !

Fabulous idea! I also like leggings and I wear a long tunic over them for modesty especially when peeing behind a tree in the woods.

Day 1 - my cat died

How heart-breaking. I have been in your place many times and there are no words that can fix it. Just put one foot in front of the other and time will heal you.

    Pilgrims, pilgrims, and more pilgrims!

I hiked part of El CF in April and decided to make advance reservations for a private room at each destination. So I started doing this in February only to find out that in certain locations I had already waited too long! Pilgrims are starting earlier and earlier and booking ahead. Plan ahead.

    Last Minute Cancellation

I also agree with Kate. Go and walk. You can always stop and go home at any time.

    Hard cash on the Camino

I start out with about 600 euros obtained from my local bank, plus 2 credit cards and an ATM card, all stashed in various places in my clothing and fanny pack etc as insurance against theft and to reduce the stress of cutting it to close. I like to have a BIG margin for error and would hate...

    Food question.

Do the cans of tuna have pop-off lids or is it necessary to carry a can opener?
