La Virgen del Camino albergue reopens today

I'm sure I know less than Gronze about their current status. When I walked last year, Ray and Rosa had the most information in a regularly updated table, which looked much like the one that was shared in this forum not too long ago . On my Camino de Madrid, I stayed in Los Huertos to break up...

    Feeling alone and anxious

It depends on how you do your pilgrimage. If you only stay in private rooms and small hotels, as many do, you may not need to carry your own bedding.

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Frances 2024

Of course, all this has got me thinking of which solo Camino I will do in November, after my hospitalero stint in Salamanca. I had been thinking that might be the perfect time to walk the Camino Mozarabe from Almería to Merida. But it is starting to be a bit more tempting to just walk from...

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Frances 2024

We are in Santiago now, enjoying staying with a fellow forum member for a few days. It was lovely to see @peregrina2000, if only for a few minutes. We will probably take a day trip to Finisterre and spend a couple of days in A Coruña. Then back to Astorga for the chocolate museum and on to...

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Frances 2024

@MARSKA you spoke a little too soon. I havent posted for a couple of days because i wanted to see how things shook up, but it seems our Camino is over for now, at least. It has been a real roller-coaster of a ride. Tuesday's wall to Barbadelo went really well, as described above. And our time...

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

I think all of this misses the essential point that @pjacobi was making: that some preparation and knowledge gathering, some on the ground experience, can make a Camino a better experience. My moderate experience shows this to be true. There is valuable experience in Europe that has resulted in...

How to decide how long to walk for

I've walked longer Caminos (e.g. 51 days) and shorter ones. I think there is a noticeable difference between a month long Camino and a one or two week Camino. But I also have to admit that people have had life changing experiences on Caminos that just last a week, so I wouldn't dismiss a shorter...

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

Perhaps @pjacobi needs a few more practice and research trips to Europe, never mind before attempting a Camino, but before proclaiming proper European customs.

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Frances 2024

Well, today was somewhat better. We walked from Samos to Barbadelo (over 21 km all in, according to the Samsung Health app). My daughter shipped her backpack today and just took a day bag and that made all the difference, she said. It also helped that there were a lot more animals today...

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Frances 2024

The whole concept of an "entire" Camino Frances is a little fraught. Unlike, say, the Camino de Madrid, which starts in Madrid, there isn't a clear starting point. When I first did the Camino in 1989, it was just called the Camino de Santiago, and included both the route over the Somport Pass...

    D'oh. Barbadelo. Corrected.

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Frances 2024

We made it to Samos today but it was a tough day for my daughter. We're going to try some strategies to improve things for her tomorrow on the way to Barbadelo. If things work out, we'll continue on to Santiago. If not, we'll walk back to Sarría, catch a bus, and see some other parts of Spain...

    Feeling alone and anxious

That's it. It doesn't seem to be in the @wisepilgrim app but I've added a comment pointing it out. Meanwhile, I've given up on A Casa de Carmen. They aren't answering emails or WhatsApp and their phones are out of service.

    Feeling alone and anxious

I'm with my daughter in a beautiful, historic and recently renovated off-stage albergue after Triacastela. The hospitalera (Eugenia) is wonderful. There is room for 60 pilgrims. We are the only ones here.

LIVE from the Camino My Camino Frances 2024

I wasn't sure I was going to post "live from the Camino" for this Camino. I'm happy to do so on my solo Caminos, but when I am walking with family, my focus is a little elsewhere and I am mindful of the privacy of my companion. But here goes. Just know that it won't be as detailed as the threads...

Casa de Carmen albergue to reopen in Barbadelo

Has anyone been here recently? It is listed in @wisepilgrim and Gronze with nice reviews from last fall but the numbers listed give an "out of service" message.

In Triacastela for the next few days

So, slight change of plans. Rosie and I will be bussing in to Triacastela this morning and resting there for a few days before continuing our walk to Santiago. If anyone is liable to arrive in the next few days and wants to say "hi", let me know.

Is it okay to have no plan for the first Camino? 🌙

For what it is worth, there are several places where you can switch back and forth between the two. I walked among the coast (technically, the "senda litoral" out of Porto and then switched at Vila do Conde to the Central, joining the Central at Arcos, but there are several other places where...

Arriving in Villafranca del Bierzo today

Great to get together and chat with @MARSKA this evening. Tomorrow, on to Trabadelo and Casa Susi.
