    Camping along the route...

One issue might be how you will charge your phone or camera. Always handy to be able to charge your phone overnight in the albergue. The hostels are also a great place to chat and mingle with people. Also you have a shower and a toilet! It could be possible to just sleep out under the stars on...

    Best walking strategy for July?

It depends on the person. Fair skinned people want to avoid sun on the skin but some can handle its heat quite well. I tan but can't handle the heat. Trying to sleep in a very warm albergue would also be tough for me. I'd be outside my comfort zone and I think to really enjoy the camino, you...

    Best walking strategy for July?

I'd be tempted to walk in July/August but the heat would be a big deterrent. It can be very hot - over 30c. With a big bag on your back you are going to be sweating a lot. It depends on how you handle the heat. I would find walking in anything over 25c too uncomfortable. Others can handle the...

    Rain ... And more rain

Don, Are the albergues more expensive along that route? I'd imagine that route from Porto would warm (but not too hot) weather during July/August. I have been in parts around there and it is lovely. A visit to the islands of Ons and Cies off the Galician coast are also a brilliant trip. Ons is...

21 days to walk: What's more important, mileage or leisure time?

Plan to have a few rest days. Your body will thank you for it. A good idea is to spend extra days in the cities like Pamplona, Logrono and Leon. They are lovely places with lots to see. Or go for smaller places to chill or places where you can take a day trip off the main route.

    First timer needs accommodation advise

I found that from 6am onwards you would not get much sleep. People start getting up to go to the toilet and rummaging about. It didn't bother me too much. Sometimes I went on the wifi or just lay on the bed as everyone gets ready for another day's walk. It is lights out at 10pm anyway. Even...

Orisson: To stop or not to stop?

Nancy, Do not be afraid to take a bus if the need arises. It is your camino.

Orisson: To stop or not to stop?

Nancy, You have the right attitude. Take the first few days slowly. You will be less likely to pick up injuries or blisters. On a clear day the Pyrenees are special. The views are just beautiful with the wild horses, birds circling overheard and the sound of cow bells in the distance. Also some...

Orisson: To stop or not to stop?

We did not stay in St Jean, we just walked straight onto Orisson after eating and getting our credencial. We had it pre booked. The price included dinner. It took us 2 1/4 hours to get there. We are young and someway fit but we took it fairly easy. It is a tough enough climb and on a hot day it...

    Returning home.

I guess you could have had the same issue sitting on your couch at home. Once your doctor gives you the ok you should be fine. Were you carrying much weight on your back?

Starting the Camino at Easter - some help please

What a great trip that was. The countryside we went through was fabulous plus the weather was on our side - mostly sunny but not too hot. All the gear we bought was used and did its job. We met some fantastic people and hearing their stories was lovely. The Spanish people are such a warm...

    Returning home.

It is a tough one having to end your walk so early. Good health and hopefully you will be walking again soon. A guy we met along the way had to end his camino early too.

Starting the Camino at Easter - some help please

Getting close to the off day. Just a week away. Was looking at long term forecast and it seems to be promising for St Jean start.

    How Much - Cuanto?

The menus del dia are fine but you will find that you tend to get chips (french fries) with them almost all the time. Food in Spain can be quite oily/greasy and some foods are quite heavy, sweet and rich. Depending on what you like to eat and what your system can take you may want to eat...

Just how difficult is it getting over The Pyrenees..

I think a big factor seems to be the weather. Walking in hot weather is tough. July and August will be very warm. Other side months could also be very warm depending on how the year turns out. For me the hot weather is very tough and I am only a young lad. I just sweat a lot and I find that very...

    How Much - Cuanto?

I guess it depends whether money is an issue for you or not. Some will have money to splash out because they are retired or in steady work. Others given the current economic climate in Europe may be out of work and sticking to a budget is a must. If you are going to do the full camino you are...

Starting the Camino at Easter - some help please

http://touch.boards.ie/thread/2056218430 The above is a link I am currently reading. It is from an Irish general chat forum. I hope and am fairly sure the op wont mind me linking it here. He walked from SJPdP to Logrono, the same stage we are planning to do. It is a lovely read. Interesting how...

Starting the Camino at Easter - some help please

I have checked the same website as you except it is in English. And the time I had is right. However I changed the departure time to include very early trains and an option comes up leaving Bordeaux at 7.45am and arrives at 12.25pm. This could suit me as it 2 hours less journey time and gives me...

Starting the Camino at Easter - some help please

Another question We are getting a train from Bordeaux to St Jean. According to the timetable on Monday 14th April the first train to St Jean leaves at 9.50am. It arrives in St Jean at 16.15. I am wondering is it possible to just walk straight to Orisson or would time be too tight to get dinner...

    When to book Orisson??

In the Brierley guide it says there are only 18 beds in the Orisson albergue. Is this right? It seems like a very small number considering there are no other alternatives closeby. It would seem booking in advance is necessary but if the weather was bad would this route not be open? 31 eur...
