Craziest thing you've seen someone bring on Camino

    Brilliant!! Why? I ask.

    Worth carrying?

We are leaving ours at home. Whilst setting off on our first Camino in Apr17 and therefore not able to quote first hand experience, all the reading and research we have done suggests there is no need to take them. We walk a lot in the UK, and only use them here if a significant portion of...

Craziest thing you've seen someone bring on Camino

April 17? Starting at StJPdP 29th April, arriving 27th. Perhaps we will see you.

Craziest thing you've seen someone bring on Camino

Brilliant thread, I hope we do not become guilty of carrying unnecessary stuff in April.

    Camera Protection

Strap gets in the way a bit, I found that anchor points are more useful as a method of using the shell, whilst also using a strap.

    Another backpack Question.

Far to complex. Described as a City Traveller Pack. Lightweight day bag required, I'm with the other contributors.

    Mountain Warehouse

I've always considered them as a budget store for all the extras (others may feel differently). For rucksacks and boots I would always go to a specialist with a range to benefit from the advice of the staff on quality / fitting etc. Locally to us in the SW, that would be Taunton Leisure, or...

    Camera Protection

Don't you just love it? I bought the same kit, clip, pad, shell and had a similar experience with my Olympus Pen. Same decision on taking the rucksack off, it's important to take care, or remove the camera first. I have just added a set of anchor links, so that they fit through the shell...

    Camera Protection

Absolutely stunning. Really impressed how well it held the camera. You just have to be careful taking your rucksack on and off. Expensive, but worth it. Walking again this coming weekend, so will set it up again. It was a bit of a damp (fog, lying snow and mist) weekend before last, so...

    Walking Boots or open sandals?

Agree with the need for ankle protection, which has put us off light trekking, or running shoes (trainers in the UK?) . We've now purchased some lightweight Lowa "Renegade" walking boots, with some insole support, which are proving to be very comfortable on some "walking in" that we have now...

    Camera Protection

I've now used my new clip across last weekend with a much smaller compact camera, and can now say, what an excellent bit of kit. The camera was held firmly, no swinging (wouldn't expect it with a compact anyway). The shell cover worked perfectly. If anyone is following this thread and...

    Walking Boots or open sandals?

Time of year? I am wondering if trail runners are spring / summer, and walking boots are better for Autumn / Winter. I'm struggling to find a compelling arguement for trail runners if the terrain is deep mud and raining. Ok for a day or too perhaps, but struggling to support for a long...

    Camera Protection

Yes, I wondered what would happen with a larger camera. The Peak Design website suggests that you could stabilise a camera under the chest strap. Perhaps a clue, and certainly not ideal in my view. I ordered the small Shell as a cover, and then got worried it would be too small for my compact...

    Walking Boots or open sandals?

Just a tad envious of a trip to Tasmania, have a great time.

    Walking Boots or open sandals?

That's really interesting, such different experiences. Seasons have to be important as well, clearly hot and sticky feet are going to present a higher risk of blisters. I suppose you could mitigate that with talc? and or changing socks frequently etc etc. some swear by "Glove in a Bottle" ...

OK, tis done. Ordered clip + shell and pad for my compact system camera, thanks for all the advice.

    Walking Boots or open sandals?

Thanks for that, you are right, I didn't include an option for more than one pair. An omission seeing some of the comments. I certainly intend having evening footwear as well, and it is interesting to see many considering, or using, two or more pairs of footwear for different terrain during...

    Walking Boots or open sandals?

Hope to make the meet. We have high ankle support boots, and "discovered" good quality walking socks, having always made do with a variety of combinations, largely learnt from my scouting days.

    Walking Boots or open sandals?

Yes, loving the advice , comments and views. So much confirms my thinking and so much challenges it. Everyone is different, with different experiences. Great.

    Walking Boots or open sandals?

Good point! I have had flat feet since my first pair of shoes, and arch support is def worthwhile.
