Thanks for all the replies, sure pointed me in the right direction! The idea of a icefilled thermos sounded both likely to keep the temperature and relatively easy to maintain - until I saw Ricks link to Frio. Bingo! Less than five minutes to activate and reactivate, immediate cooling effect...
