Camino del Norte (March 2016)
My brother and I will start our walk on the del Norte 19 March 2016 in Irun we are 1st time pilgrims ... Any advice for the first leg of the walk?

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Enjoy every bit of it. Instead of aiming for a 7pm pilgrim dinner, aim for a 2-3 pm Menu del dia. Much better quality than anything available in the evening, actually quite a treat. In Zarautz, treat youself to a meal at Karlos Arguinano's restaurant. Try the Txacoli wine, the pote asturiano, the carbayon in Llanes. Visit the Museum of peace and townhall in Guernika. Spend the night at the Saturino albergue in Hazas to be shown the beautiful way out of time by a stunning little beach at stunzning views into the next the next town. Avoid the alberugue in San Vicente and Santander, stay at the Solar de Hidalgo albergue in Santillana and visit the faux Altamira cave. Pay the 2€ to visit the church in San Vicente behind the albergue. Chill your feet in the sea. Be ready for cold and rain. If you opt for the Primitvo option don't be put off by reviews of the Esclampero algbergue, it's fine, in Oviedo look for the new albergue at no. 8 calle Covadonga.

Oh, and enjoy it!

Yes, take the "alpista" route provided it is not raining, and break the first stage into two short days, staying at Pasajes de San Juan the first night and at San Sebastián the second. The albergue at Pasajes is quite small so get there reasonably early - we made the mistake of setting off from Irun at 3pm and had to spend the first night in a tent in the albergue grounds, because it was full. But it has a beautiful view and a great way to start the walk.
