This is so helpful - thank you so much! I definitely want something a bit more expensive so I will check out yyour second recommendation. If you want a private room (i.e. not an albergue-style hostel), the minimum price you'll be paying at that time of year is EUR 50/night. In that price-range, you could do worse than the Hotel des Pyrénées up in the 20ème. Very close to the eponymous métro-stop; decent-sized single room with small private bathroom; clean; and a safe area. Not many dining options in the vicinity, though, beyond a somewhat grim McDo, so have your meals in the centre of town before going there to crash out.
A bit more expensive, but nicer all round and better located, is the Terminus, just a few metres from Porte d'Orléans métro (line 4). The attractive part of Montparnasse; any amount of pretty decent restaurants, groceries and cafés in the vicinity if you walk up in the direction of Alésia. It'll probably cost you closer to EUR 65/night, though.
If all you want is the cheapest possible safe and clean place, and to hell with where it's located, the Première Classe chain has a couple of hotels at Parc des Expositions, near Charles de Gaulle airport, at EUR 35 per. The location is basically a well-manicured industrial estate, so you'll be trucking your sandwiches in and out if you want to eat anything.
Stayed at Hotel Celtic (or maybe Celtic Hotel) in 2018 and will be there again in June 2020. Short walk from there to/from Montparnasse train station, which will get you to SJPdP. Best wishes.Hi everyone,
At this stage I am still planning to walk the Camino Frances in June/July. I have to stay in Paris for two nights before making my way to SJPdP. Can anyone recommend a nice relatively inexpensive hotel in Paris (I know this is probably an oxymoron!)
After doing some serious homework we finally settled on St.Chris when our nephew decided to take his 1st solo trip to Paris couple of years ago.In May, 2017, I stayed in the St. Christopher's Inn, backpacker hostels in Paris, which is close to the Gare Du Nord (North Train Station (5 mins), Sacré-Cœur Basilica, (24 mins), etc. It was 35 Euro/night. Breakfast was reasonably priced.
There was a poster in the Inn saying the price would be "cheaper" if ones book directly with them.

Thank you very much for your recommendation.I stayed here with my granddaughters-- it's within walking distance of the Eiffel tower and all the other historic places. We loved itHome - Youth Hostel Adveniat Paris - Champs-Elysées

Thanks Joanne. We have booked Hôtel Odessa Montparnasse, as it is very close to Gare Montparnasse where the train leaves for Bayonne (although we have since changed our plan and decided to fly to Biarritz LOL).
We are also walking in June & July.
May*Thanks Joanne.
I way see you on the way

Being a poor student made any hotel options a no option
He has returned to Paris every year since and won't stay anywhere else.
A bed in a 4-person dorm with it's own bathroom is about 30-35 USD

Thank you for this. I love interesting and eclecticWe stayed at the Hôtel de Roubaix after a bad AirBnB experience. Interesting and eclectic. We enjoyed it - great staff, and pretty close to everything (about two blocks from the Metro.
It is also about two blocks from Auberge Nicolas Flamel, which is the oldest house in Paris turned into a restaurant. Great food, but a bit pricey and more dress up than most Peregrino dining experiences (I felt like a slob in my Camino attire - others were dressed quite nicely).
I have never used an Air BnB. Maybe it's time I tried it!Have you thought about booking a room in someone's house on AirBnB. I have done it many times and always have had great experiences. One tip that helps is try to find a room that is owned by a Superhost. They are super people. It is a cheaper alternative with lots of extra benefits.
As an Airbnb Superhost I second that suggestion. One big positive is that you can see the reviews that previous guests have written. I’ve hosted 300+ guests and have been a guest more than 100 times—currently in a really nice place in Guatemala. If you need more info or help with this let me know!I have never used an Air BnB. Good choice! I stayed there in 2018, and if plans are able to be kept will stay there again in September. We have booked Hôtel Odessa Montparnasse, as it is very close to Gare Montparnasse where the train leaves for Bayonne (although we have since changed our plan and decided to fly to Biarritz LOL).
