Air-Berlin with bike-box problem in Santiago

I was at the airport today picking someone up, and decided to stop by the Air-Berlin counter to ask them about their bike policy.

It seems like they charge 20 euro per trip for transporting a bike. So, if you fly from Santiago to Hamburg it would be 20 euro for Santiago - Palma and then another 20 for Palma - Hamburg.

You need to box the bike for them to take your bike. The problem is that Air-Berlin does not have any boxes (at the Santiago airport). So far their customers have gotten some boxes from Iberia, but Iberia has now said that they will not give/sell boxes to other companies.

The Air-Berlin representative said that she was working on a solution. But still it might be worth noting that if you are planning to fly from Santiago on Air-Berlin with a bike, you might want to bring your own box from Santiago (and take a taxi to the airport).

Greetings from Santiago,
Ivar
