Ronic,
Sorry, I may have been a little too brief in my first reply. Here we go again with more details:

From Santander to Irun, you go by bus with the Alsa Bus Co, which you can catch right near the ferry terminal. Look at this schedule:

http://www.alsa.es/portal/site/Alsa/tem ... cachetoken

In Irun, you walk to Hendaye. It's only a 10 minute walk across the bridge into France. If you don't feel like walking, grab a cab for a short ride.

In Hendaye, you take a train for Bayonne with SNCF. Following is the schedule (I put in the 3-4 April, not knowing your exact date). In any case, the schedule is pretty well the same from day to day:

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-trai ... ts?hid=59A

In Bayonne, you catch another train with SNCF for SJPDP. Again, here is the schedule for the same date as above:

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-trai ... ts?hid=3Q4

I don't know if you can do the whole trip in just one day. You might have to sleep along the way. There are plenty of cheap hotels in Irun, Hendaye and Bayonne near the train stations.

I hope this will help you a little more and make your planning less stressful.

Enjoy your camino,
Jean-Marc

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi

Last September two of us got a specialist camino taxi from Biaritz airport to SJPP - cost 60 euros. Sounds a bit expensive but is saves all of the train fares - and took 1 hour instead of half a day - alowed us to start the walk straight away and stayed in Orisson (esential to book) for the night instead of SJPP - which made the next day much easier. If it saves you a hotel bill it will be well worth it - or if there are two of you.

They may do a pick up from Santander.

Regards Richard.
(We are off again from Burgos in early May - so our paths may cross.)

Sorry for the delayed reply but thank you to Jean Marc,Richard, Valerie and Terry.Less than 5 weeks to go.I think i have walked every lane in Torbay, Teignbridge the South Hams and Dartmoor in the last year but feeling all the better for it.Nicole has not had the time to walk has much but she is young and fit enough i am sure.We have been taking things out of our rucksacks but are still around 12 kilos. Thanks again,Roger and Nicole.

Would that be 12kgs each or between you?
We managed to get ours down to about 14kgs between is, plus water.
If you want to look at our packing lists they are on our blog at Posts for October 2009

Our packing for this year will be about the same. When it is finalised we will be putting this year's list up on the blog. Terry walked to Buckfast this past week (21km) carrying 10kg and said it was more than he would want to carry on the Camino.
