Booking in St Jean in April?

Plan to walk the Camino Frances April (2015)
Dia dhaoibh (Hi in Irish)

My apologies if this has been addressed already, but I'm starting in St Jean on April 9th and was wondering if it is advisable to book the first night at this time of year. My schedule has me arriving in the late afternoon.

There's a stubborn purist in me that would like not to have to book at all if possible, but sometimes discretion is the better part of freezing to death

Any replies appreciated and Buen Camino!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
You can safely indulge it in early April. There will be a bed. Go to the Pilgrim Office, and they will arrange it.
Thanks very much, Falcon. I'm leaning that way. Buen Camino.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

I'm flying Dublin Biarritz first week of June and leaving it to chance that I'll get accomodation, straight to the pilgrims office when you get there and apparently they have up to the minute room availability information

That is the peak departure time for SJPdP!! The Pilgrim Office will help you find a bed (occasionally at a higher cost in a hotel).
Hi Falcon, I'm arriving in Biarritz 12:30 was hoping to get to StJPdeP by 3 if I travel with Caroline and Express Bouricott. Do you think the town would be full at this stage. I was hoping to let be what will be, but I don't fancy sleeping under the stars at the same time!

I would reserve at SJPP and at Orisson, and then leave the remainder to the whims and dictates of my mind, body, and availability.

That is unlikely to happen! If you are not nervous about booking ahead, just go. The Pilgrim Office will take care of you, particularly at that hour of the day.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
