Camino Movie - "Sticky Fingers"

I'm visiting Palm Springs, California, which is having it's annual International Film Festival right now. In reading the paper I saw this movie listed, I'm going tonight and I'll let you know what I thought:

"Sticky Fingers", entry from Quebec, Canada, US Premiere

In this sly comedy, six of the world's worst gangsters managed to heist $2 million, but only one got away. Now after four years in the clink, five bumbling thieves from Montreal are forced to walk the famous Camino pilgrimmage in Spain to prove they've changed their ways and deserve their cut of the loot.

Just back from the movie and I thought it was wonderful. Is as the newspaper described - 5 inept crooks are forced to do the Camino to 'change themselves' for a higher reward. I thought the director did a wonderful job of trying to be authentic as possible - bed bugs, snoring pilgrims included! They stayed in hostels, with cold showers (when water was available) and had a most difficult time getting their credencials as they didn't prove satisfactorily that they were walking for religious purposes! There was some dramatic license used but I thought he was most respectful to the spirit of the Camino.

There was a Question & Answer period after with the Director and one of the actors. The Director's girlfriend had walked the Camino Frances, ergo the 2nd-hand information of the Way, and it was set in Argentina for two reasons. One - yes, it was cheaper than filming in Spain, but also Two - the film was set in 1964 and he knew there was no way he could get an authentic feel on the Camino in the present age when, as he said "300 people pass per day when in 1964 only 300 did the whole Camino!". Fair enough!
