Ellen and I walked the Le Puy to Conques route for two weeks a month ago, great weather, good people, lovely scenery, all that we expected and a lovely contrast to the Camino in Spain.

One question however has anyone else noticed that there appears to be a differance between the length between places in the guides (Raju and MMDD) and actually on the ground? We walked with Tony and Louise who had both a GPS and a pedometer and their totals agreed and were further than those in the books on several days. Can anyone shed any light on this ?

best wishes

ps oh and never try to get a train from lyon to Le Puy at about 5 pm on a Friday !!! we made it but only just. the station was jampacked, the platforms were dangerously full, the arrival notices were only put up minutes before the train left and the queues were long and slow. But the scenery into Le Puy was lovely.

Perhaps due to certain sections of the route being re-routed every year. It does change! Town councils apparently leverage the FFGR to include them on the route, for the increased business. Gite owners prevail to run the route directly past their front door, so they can advertise they are sur le Chemin. You'll observe oddly located mileage markers in the MMD sometimes - due their maps not being completely updated.

And never trust those signposts on the ground!
