COVID Finishing a story... Canadians to Portugal, Feb 2022

Just a quick update as the previous thread about Canadians--yes or no?--into Portugal has been locked...

Last you all heard, we were about to catch the train from Spain to Portugal, having been (possibly?) not allowed to fly into Portugal from Canada.

As Katharina has noted, the situation is still confusing.

But...early Sunday morning, we bought tickets in Vigo, for Porto. (Then to take another train from Porto south to near Lisbon, where we live when we're in Portugal).

We were quite worried, as various websites/news sources/Portuguese govt. sources had failed to clarify the new rules.

But...no questions about our citizenship/vax status/whatever at Vigo train station. They couldn't care less.

The train was Portuguese (CP). The conductors, who checked our tickets onboard, were Portuguese. Nobody asked; nobody seemed to care.

No checking of any kind at the Spanish/Portuguese border at Tui/Valenca. (In fact, the first stop on the line was over the border, already into Portugal at Valenca.)

Porto Campagna station: huge; bus terminal/major train station/commuter rail station. Zillions of people. Absolutely no possibility of restricting entry of train passengers into the general hoi-polloi here. So on we went!

And here we are, a couple of days later, in Vila Nova da Barquinha, where the first week of our travels feels like a very bad dream...I wish all travellers best of luck!
