Camino Del Norte (2016)
a very basic question - if not starting at the official beginning, what happens on your first night when you have arrived by public transport? Do you get a stamp for the place of arrival or is your first stamp only after the first day walking? Thanks!

But would the first albergue stamp when I have just stepped off a train?

When you check into the Albergue get your first stamp, as has been mentioned you can get a stamp just about anywhere.
If you arrive and start walking immediately, then a church, cafe, bar will give you a stamp.
Hope this helps.

The last 100 kilometers is what gets looked at, 2 stamps a day are required. Information Kiosks, churches, restaurants, hotels, stores, even roadside vendors, just ask for a stamp. When you get to your destination, the first bar or restaurant or store you come to, ask for a stamp. Same applies to your first nights lodging. Ask for a stamp. Buen Camino

I've been meaning to ask ... There is talk of getting stamps in shops, tourism offices, you name ot. And yes, most of these will have a stamp they use for their business dealings, but is that what one really wants to see in a credencial that will become a great memento? Or has everyone on the CF gone stamp crazy? It used to be you got one at the albergue, the odd bar had a cute one, then the woman as you walked into Logrono, but has their been a stamp explosion on the CF? Because I certainly have not see that on the Norte or Primitivo.

When you check in for the ferry ask the desk staff if they still have the 'bear's paw' stamp and also next day ask the info desk on the ferry for a stamp. They did have a pretty one or else just the ferry's name. The bar just past the FEVE station in Barreda does not have a stamp (or didn't when we stopped there), almost everywhere in Santillana will have one and then your accommodation.
