French air traffic controllers went on strike Wednesday. The strike is expected to last through Thursday.

Another strike action is planned for later in April.

This story didn't even merit mention in our local paper or television. I'm sure it was very inconvenient for 1000's of travelers. This is one of the beauties of travel in France during peak periods, if it's not the airlines then it's the trains. Nothing can drive an American "running on a schedule" more than a 24 hour labor disruption here and the unions know that.

So the papers finally had the story this morning. It was a general strike, not just air traffic controllers, everyone railing against Hollande's proposal to change the retirement age and workers' rights regarding dismissals and retrenchments.
