If you are starting in Spain you can follow my path:
I am flying into Bilbao. If you have never been to Bilbao, you owe it to yourself to stay there a few days. Beautiful town, great architecture, Guggenhiem, bridges just for walking, Metro to the sea, great bookstores and restaurants and a wonderful old town area. Then I am bussing to Pamplona and Roncesvalles to start my walk on the downhill side - help the knees last for the full month.
Details:
- Luthansa, $750 RT, from San Francisco.
- Staying at the Albergue Bilbao Aterpetxeo.
... Its an International Youth Hostel, clean and wonderful.
... 21 euros a night for a double - I believe that I will have it to myself.
... Located just up the hill from the Guggenhiem.
- Alsa bus to Pamplona. It leaves many times a day
- Autocares Artiedabus to Roncesvalles.
Pick up your passport in Bilbao, Pamplona or Roncesvalles.
