Hi to all currently on the Camino,

An Irishman, flew to Paris on July 17th and travelled to the Pyrenees to begin his Camino. This would mean that he prob started the Camino on July 18th or 19th. There has been no contact between him and his family since 19th July when he was at Privat D'Allier. He mailed unnecessary items to a friend on July 21st and nothing has been heard from him by anyone since. If you have seen, met or talked to Vincent since July 19th can you please the police in France/Spain know. They are treating him as a missing person and are liasing together and with the Irish embassies. His family are hoping that it is a case that he has lost his phone and has been without coverage.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

On a lighter note... There is a lesson here. Talk to family and friends before leaving and give them a clear picture of when/if/ frequency of expected communication on the camino. My family has usually worked on the premise that "no news is good news." In other words, don't "expect " to hear from me. When I'm traveling/hiking it's usually in remote areas and I rarely have a satellite phone with me.
Very happy that all was/is well in this case of the not-lost man from Ireland.

Sorry @wayfarer, I cannot see that not updating Facebook or ringing home for 10 days is really sound reasoning for declaring someone missing if you know they are doing the camino. Most national consular services are very thorough - I think they could have been relied on should anything untoward have happened. Perhaps his mum should have accepted that whether deliberately or inadvertently, he was just out of touch.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
My sentiments precisely Snake !
