Last minute fretting...the way home and airline boarding passes

It seems so petty, but it's the last thing on my mind before I get going.

How straightforward is it going to be to print a boarding pass at an internet hub in Spain? If I don't present one upon departure, notorious budget airline will charge me the same as the ticket just to print one for me.

The alternative is to buy a smartphone - no, I don't have one - and demo it electronically on the screen. But I don't want to give in. I'm content with my old phone-is-a-phone cellphone.

What do other people do on a 5-week camino?

When you do arrive in Santiago visit the Pilgrim Office at 3, rua do Vilar where the staff will be able to help you locate a near-by computer with printer to print your boarding pass.

No need to worry; enjoy your camino!

PS. If all else fails a computer with printer is available by the concierge counter at San Martin Pinario which by the way is a great place to stay either in their albergue rooms or in regular tourist accommodations

It didn't seem petty when I was faced with the same problem two years ago. I was in a small cafe/bar in Fonfria and noticed a computer with a printer. They allowed me to print my boarding pass. I believe that many of the larger hotels will print out that pass for you too. When I didn't find were internet cafes. There might still be some in larger cities. Perhaps other folks on this forum can tell you where to find one. I never noticed one when I was there.

Most libraries in Spain have have public computer access, where you ca print, the local tourist office will either print for you or point you in the direction of somewhere that can, and the hospitaleros in some of the better equipped alberges can let you use their computer to print. Don't worry, you will get your pass printed without problems! Buen Camino!

I went to public library in Santiago to use a computer but was told not possible to print! Then i tried to go to Pilgrim House on Rua Nova but could not find it.....i actually think it now it was closed that day. Then i asked at Correos office beside pilgrim office and the very friendly guy there let me use his computer to do check in and print boarding pass.

The Tourist Office located on Rua Villar (the same street as the Pilgrim Office) has a Boarding Pass service. I think there is a small fee...but it is set up to make it easy.

Got mine printed at the Camino office on Plaza Praterias, on the corner of the beautiful Plaza. Not sure what the office is supposed to be, seems like a Camino/Galicia info center and a place to buy some Camino souvenirs.

Hmmmmm. I'm not using Ryanair and am wondering what all this that keeps coming up about printing boarding passes is about. Won't there be checkin kiosks at Barajas to print out passes?

Problem is Ryanair. Never needed to do that with any other airline, especially regular ones, but there are many airlines put there I hac've never flown.

Hi, Beth,
The only check-in kiosks I have seen in Spain were in Barajas and weren't set up to take international tickets, but that was years ago so it may be different now. In any event, there is no need to worry, you can just go to the check-in counter with your passport and they'll pull up your ticket (at least that is what I do with Iberia). I always have my record locator written down in case I need to give them more information but that has never been the case. Buen camino, Laurie

Excellent internet place opposite Viloria Travel agency across main road. I have often gone there to print my boarding passes or telephone Australia.
My grandsons played video games at the back while I spent an hour on the computer...

Thanks so much, Laurie! That's reassuring and will save time and frustration trying to get a kiosk that doesn't work on international tickets to work. Sometimes I wish we had a Ryanair-like option from the States as cross-pond tickets are so expensive. I remember the days of the original Priceline when we went for $250 - $400 max:0((.

The Pilgrim House on Rua Nova is closed on Wednesdays, maybe that was when you were there. If it is open I am sure they will print the boarding pass for the OP. They are fantastically helpful as is that lovely young man at the Correos office near the Pilgrim's Office. I have no doubt that he would be only too willing to help as well and you can be sure he will do it with a smile (that is of course if it is the same young man who helped us so much with posting things back to Australia back in May this year.)

Yes, i believe it was a Wednesday i went to find Pilgrim House!
Next time in Santiago i will go to Pilgrim House.

Yes be sure to visit there. They are really great and you can just go and drink coffee and chill out if you like.

I had forgotten about the Pilgrim House on Rua Nova having a Boarding Pass service. A great place to drop in and rest or drink tea or coffee in a Pilgrim atmosphere.
They actually have a big list of services for pilgrims from laundry service to holding your pack for you.
Look them up....

Pilgrim House on 9 Rua Nova in Santiago will print off your boarding pass for a fee. They are open 11am to 8pm daily EXCEPT Wednesdays and Sundays. If you are staying in a Hotel in Santiago, most will also print off your boarding pass. Check this out with them first. If they are happy with this, the will normally ask you to email them the boarding pass. There is an internet cafe in Santiago, ask at Tourist info for the address. The only one on Rua Nova cloased and is now a bakery. The place was almost empty when I went to it last year. The owner said that people weren't coming in any more because they all has smart phones.

Sorry to hear that -- I really liked that young kind of goth couple that ran that place. They were sweet and helpful. Their services were so cheap (phone, internet or printing), but they were just hanging on by a thread. There were very lovely, helpful and very peregrino friendly. Like you I hope that they have moved onto something more profitable.

Thanks for the supportive advice. Sadly, my camino is cancelled due to a recent bereavement. Hopefully it won't be too long until the next one.
