Lodging in Vigo & Pazo Pias

Two questions...any great recommendations for lodging in Vigo...and Baja or Alta? Also, if we wanted to push past Vigo, what is next best recommendation for lodging? Looks dismal until Redondela. Second question. I know there's a hotel at Pazo Pias...is there also an albergue? Right now I'm booked for 100 for 3 beds at the hotel...but am willing to stay in a dorm for less. kathy
 
Get a Spanish mobil number + data while on the Camino
Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Hi Kathy, Pazo Pias has a pilgrim rate of 15 euros per person, but this rate cannot be reserved. It is a walk-in only rate with credencial as proof of pilgrim status.
The alternative is a normal rate at 22 euros per person, 90% of the total cost must be paid 15 days before arrival, and cancellations are not allowed.

I have stayed at Bahia de Chapela in Chapela, about 7kms after Vigo. 40 euros for a twin-bed ensuite room. I can recommend it. You can book it via booking.com, where it is indexed under "Redondela".

Jill, Thanks for the info. Quick question. Is Vigo a charming city or just a big city? Trying to decide if we want to just continue on or if its worth a stop?

@kmccue we loved Vigo. It surprised us. So fantastic to see a city in Galicia that is thriving - the centre for three big industries (car making, shipyards and the biggest fishing port in Europe), and to us the whole place felt prosperous and the people happy. A lovely small but historical centre of town that comes alive at night with families. Highly recommended.

Caminha for the markets ,
Vigo for a bit of Spanish culture , there is a reason why the planes land there.
Pontevedra for The Parador , and why not Lady K
 
Last year someone had the following recommendation for me: “Better to walk another 3 kms [past Redondela] to Cessantes were you can sleep at Refúxio de la Jérezana.” May put it to the test when I resume my walk from Vigo this year.

I, too, really liked what I saw of Vigo my one evening there, and am tempted to give it a full day before going afoot again. While there, I stayed at the B&B Hotel...more comfortable than usual Camino fare, but I enjoyed the night of extra comfort.

It was me who advised to go to Cessantes
better than the smelly noisy big albergue in the center of Redondela.
