Hi there,i'm reallystruggling to figure out how to get luggage transported from town to town between porto and tui? Does anyone know how this works? We are going in early september, whats the weather like then? Thanks!

You will find telephone numbers, etc. at the alberques posted on the bulletin boards. One taxi driver may also give you the name and phone number of the person covering the next segment.

I don't remember. My husband developed a HUGE blister (like 3" across) and had to take a taxi to the next town. Several people put their packs in with him so you have to consider that! The plus, of course, is that we were guaranteed that packs would arrive. He complained that he arrived in the next town by 7 am before the cafes opened and then had to figure out where best to leave the packs until hikers showed up. We did find information on the bulletin boards in all the abergues and you can negotiate with the taxi's. You might also want to check around the alberque because people were excited to find out someone was going and they could send their packs ahead. Bom Caminho! This is a great route--we walked from Porto to Santiago.

Hi, Matilda,

I know that the normal out-of-town taxi fare in Portugal runs around a euro a kilometer. So if you got a few packs together, it'd be pretty reasonable for your average 25 km stage.

Bom caminho. Laurie

How does it work exactly? I would imagine that the luggage arrives before a lot of hostels open and I don't see the average taxi driver running all over town to find a key.

Hi

We wanted to do this also all the way from Lisbon and found nothing until Tui. However, we used a company called MRW in Portugal to move our backpacks which we did 3 & 4 days ahead each time and used a small pack with essentials in the interim. We sent 3 packs forward and the cost averaged about 8 euros per day per pack. It is not ideal but MRW was efficient and honest. They charge according to weight. Once they refunded monies because the weight was less. They saved our Camino because our packs were well over 10kgs. google to locate them.
