Marking of routes into Santiago to be improved

Following critical press comments on the state of the marking of the Camino Frances into Santiago, the authorities are taking immediate steps to
- improve the marking of the last 14km of the Camino Frances so it's ready for the summer season
- put out to public tender a 6-month contract for cleaning up the Galician sections of the other routes
- introduce regular monitoring
We may see bronze scallop-shells appearing on the way(s) into Santiago, but it seems the Ayuntamiento doesn't think these are necessary in the historic centre itself.

I was wondering what the eighth route in Galicia was, but it seems they count Fisterra and Muxia as 2 routes. The 8 are:
Francés, Inglés, Portugués, Plata/Sanabrés, Fisterra, Costa/Norte, Primitivo, Muxía.
The first 5 go to Santiago itself, the others join another route before arrival in Santiago. Total distance in Galicia 1091km.

the 6-month contract has been awarded to a company called Acibeiro, who start work on Monday. So if you're en route in Galicia, you may well see people out working on the waymarks etc.
