After a long downhill trek from Alto de la Pedrajas to Burgos our calves were in pain. Plus we hiked a bit too fast. Diagnosis - inflamed flexors. Forced day rest in Burgos before we were able to resume our hike.

Lessons learned - slow down! Stretch everyday after hike, elevate legs, ice, no compression. Buen camino!

Your post says no compression. Is that a typo or did the physio stray away from the RICE mantra for some reason?

No typo. According to this Physio, with Inflammation of the flexors (calves) there’s a sheath that needs to move along the tendons. So in this case compression would not be advisable. Took off compression bandage and really helped a lot. One other person on camino had similar issue so after we told her what this Physio said, she took off compression bandage and her issues resolved too. If in doubt please see doc or Physio for pro consultation.
