Santiago to Finisterrs

Time of past OR future Camino

Hello everyone! I had the joy and experience of walking from SJPP to Santiago last year, and am heading back in mid September to walk from Santiago to Finisterre. I am flying in early to Santiago airport and want to get my feet on the road that day, to stay in a hostel outside Santiago/ Question: is it possible to start walking straight from the airport or am I better getting a taxi and asking to be brought to the outskirts of Santiago? I'm not a purist and don't feel the need to start walking from the steps of the cathedral (and having to experience the industrial outskirts of the city - I walked through enough industrial areas during the CF last year!)

The airport is on the Camino Frances. It takes me over three hours to get to the Cathedral from the airport, so you will be adding to the length of the day by starting there, but it is a relatively nice walk until Monte do Gozo (then the usual urban walk like Logrono, Burgos, and Leon). Unless you are in a rush, you can save the 6E bus fare into Santiago from the airport.

If you walk into Santiago and decide to spend the night, this albergue is on the way out of town toward Fisterra. It has an incredible restaurant (Don Quijote) a block away as well as the Forum-famous Cafe Tortulia a long block away!

It’s about 14km. to the cathedral.

Wish you well and a Buen Camino , Peter .

Walk into and out of Santiago.

What a glorious journey you'll have.

Buen camino.
