I walked the Canal du Robine to start with from Narbonne and then onto the Canal du Midi picking up the pilgrim trail/GR78 at Carcasonne. My understanding is that the local wine growers do no want pilgrims/walkers going through their vines/land around the Narbonne stage. Not sure how true that info is, but I have heard it more than once or twice. Now in St Bertrand-Comminges planning my next stage. Oh, how I wish it wasn't so hot!
