Thanks for this, Dermot. I will order it tomorrow.Hi, my name is Dermot Breen and I walked the Camino del Norte, Camino Muxia and Camino Finisterre (1000km) in 2016 in memory of my wife Jacqui and to raise funds for cancer research. I just wanted to let everyone know that my book 'The Man with the Camino Tattoo' covering my experiences has just been published and is now available to purchase online from Shanway Press or Amazon. It costs £12 and all revenue from sales goes to support a cancer research charity. My book is not a guidebook as such, but for anyone interested in walking the Camino, it does provide a very good insight into all that is involved and what you might expect along the way should you choose to embark on the Camino. You’ll find out about the locals and their customs, the markers and signs to look out for, the weather and the terrain, the types of pilgrims (some serious, some casual), the hostels and albergues (some good some not so good), the gear you need and the stuff you can do without, the sleeping conditions and, of course, the inevitable snoring! Here is an extract from the text on the book’s cover:
“In 2016, Dermot decided to undertake a gruelling 1,000 kilometre pilgrimage along the challenging Camino del Norte in memory of his wife Jacqui, who had been cruelly taken from him fifteen months earlier by ovarian cancer. As he carries his rucksack and great sense of loss with him along the centuries old route, he dearly hopes to achieve some sort of peace - perhaps even find a place of sanctuary. And as the land he passes through gradually reveals many of its wondrous myths and legends associated with St James, he begins to believe that miraculous events are perhaps not only confined to the past. Through the tremendous camaraderie he experiences on his Camino, and particularly through his encounters with the enigmatic Jane, he gains a much better understanding of himself and his loss, which ultimately results in a surprising and life enhancing revelation. Told with great honesty and passion, this is a story that reaches into the very heart of the reader and demonstrates that, even when life can seem utterly hopeless, the human spirit is a powerful force that can rescue even the most vulnerable of souls.”

Thank you KirkieThanks for this, Dermot. I will order it tomorrow.
Sorry about that Kirkie. That is not good at all! I will get onto the publisher first thing in the morning. DermotDermot, I have tried to order the book via Shanway, and also via Amazon. Shanway won't let me complete because of a missing field for the county, and Amazon say it is out of print. When you have any news, I would be glad to hear. Thanks.
Can I ask where you are ordering it from - which country?Sorry about that Kirkie. That is not good at all! I will get onto the publisher first thing in the morning. Dermot
Ireland, Dublin. I can give them a ring in the morning. Landline calls are in my package. I tried on my laptop as well, but maybe it is something I am not seeing. I will sort it out in the morning. Can I ask where you are ordering it from - which country?
Dermot, I have just spoken to someone in Shanway Press. I will send a cheque and the book will find its way down south. I look forward to receiving it. I am delighted to know that proceeds will go to your charity. In my family we have four favourite charities, if they may be so described, resulting from our experience of those charities caring for family members. The youngest participant is 8, she is running for life in London, for the benefit of the hospice where her granny died...Please let me know if you can't get it sorted as I could possible send one to you directly if necessary.
So glad you have got sorted out Kirkie, but sorry you had to go to all that trouble - ordering a book should not be that difficult! Were Shanway able to explain why you weren't able to order it online? I'm meeting with them tomorrow and will raise it with them. Yes, all money goes to a cancer research charity. I have also raised funds for our local Hospice where my late wife spent her final few days - the hospices do tremendous work and are staffed by angels. Please tell your 8 year old family member from me that she is an absolute star and her granny would be very proud of her (as I'm sure you all are also!) It was no trouble, Dermot, and Catherine was very much on the ball with the suggestion to send a cheque. I will tell Amber, the brave wee soul. Both she and her sister have been brought up to regard gifts as mostly for cancer research as their gran died of a brain tumour, and their mum is recovering from leukaemia, and is a wonderful ambassador for Bloodwise in UK. Amber had a special day recently, and with her mum and sister decided that the little money gift I sent would go 80% to Bloodwise, and the rest half to each sister. Howzat for lovely?!!So glad you have got sorted out Kirkie, but sorry you had to go to all that trouble - ordering a book should not be that difficult! Thanks Bernie. I will mark it for another purchase...I would just like to add if i may that Dermot has also written a fantastic book called THE EDGE on walking the Ulster way(again all proceeds to said charity). It is a book of tremendous love and of heartbreaking loss and his associated highs n lows on his walk,It is sometimes a very difficult book to read on an emotional level and I indeed had to put it away for a few days when reading it,however it is a truely inspiring book.
Apologies for the delay in replying. Not at the minute unfortunately, but possibly in the future.Would it be possible to make an ebook version?

It has taken me a while, and am on page 89. i just had to stop reading and share the laughter on reading your description of the lady who snored in Guemes! I haven’t had some sustained time to just sit and read but decided to take it this afternoon. It is reading like a thriller... and am waiting for more about Jane. I know some of that terrain, but not from walking it. I lived in Bilbao for a year and so some of the area is familiar to me. The hanging bridge (El Puente Colgante) was built, as I understood, to allow the domestic staff from the poor side to cross over and go to work in the homes of the wealthier ones who owned the foundries and heavy industry plant. I was learning Spanish on the hoof, and often listened to locals talking about what they cooked yesterday, what they were going to cook today, and what they would be cooking tomorrow!
