Time of past OR future Camino

My husband and I will be traveling around Portugal before we meet up with a group to walk El Camino in Santiago. We were going to fly into Lisbon and rent a car. Now we are faced with the charges of returning the car in Spain. Would it be better to drop the car in Porto and take a bus or train to Santiago? Or somewhere else? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

CP Celta train goes from Porto Campanha to Vigo Guixar. Renfe operates trains from Vigo to Santiago.

Autna buses goes from Porto (3 stops including airport) to Vigo. Monbus operates buses from Vigo to Santiago

After my camino I went to Porto for a few days and then back to Santiago. There is a direct bus from Casa de Musica in Porto to the Bus station in Santiago. The bus passes the airport in Porto as well if you leave the car there.

I bought the ticket online at alsa.es do remember to print the ticket as you have to present a paper ticket when travelling over the border.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I assume your group is walking the Camino Frances. No chance of convincing them to walk from Porto (or earlier) and they could meet you there!
