Camino Frances April 2018
Just arrived in Pamplona & about to find my way to Roncesvalles, but read that there is flooding from Roncesvalles to Zubiri???
Is it worth starting from Roncesvalles or should I stay in Pamplona & start from here?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I would even put it on hold for a couple of days, there are general floods on that area, enjoy a weekend in Pamplona, then head to Roncesvalles on Sunday afternoon. They will have information in the albergues in Pamplona, I suppose

thank you all for your quick replies, much appreciated!
I called the place I am staying in Roncesvalles & they say all is fine & weather improving. So decided to risk it & go - if conditions are bad - might just stay the weekend on the first stop along the road, which everyone says is really nice

Stay and visit Pamplona a day or two. Then you can walk straight through coming from Zubiri.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
There are Camino detours west of Pamplona in Puenta la Reina and Estella due to the high water. Get some updates form the local news or tourist office.

Well, you heard it from the horse's mouth, it seems reasonable enough to go ahead and start walking! Only be careful, the wet descent onto Zubiri can be tricky with all roots and rocks! ¡Buen Camino, you lucky thing!

I’m from New Zealand so used to some unfavorable conditions when hiking - hopefully it won’t be too bad.... Thank you for your warning about descent to Zubiri

We do have trail covering around 3,000 km (? 1,800 miles) and is named Te Araroa (the way that is long)

It runs from the northern most point to the bottom and has a mix of gentle rural trails, tramping (? hiking) in the "bush", roads and "high country" trails.

It is not a pilgrimage like that to Santiago de Compostela.

On the other hand the trail goes through the small village of Jerusalem on the banks of the Whanganui River, where a mission to Maoru was established by Venerable Suzanne Aubert in 1882.

For more information please visit Te Araroa here

Kia kaha (take care, be strong, get going)

No flooding just high water in river. Walk around

That descent is hell. I skipped it last time. Took the bus from Roncesvalles to Pamplona, after crossing the Pyrennes
