Villafranca del Bierzo - Wine tasting?

Time of past OR future Camino
1998
Could anybody recommend a guided wine-tasting experience in Villafranca del Bierzo? It would have to be in the town itself and not insanely expensive. It would be for a group of 10-12 people.

Thanks!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

I had a good experience in tasting Bierzo wines at the Camponaraya Vine and Wine Interpretation Center. It’s situated right on the Camino and is quite visible with wine signs in the front.

They had an ongoing wine tasting programs when I visited the place during my walk in October 2016.

Moncloa de San Lazaro in Cacabelos is well know throughoutt Spain for its fine dining. I have stayed there several times for a rest day, the rooms are wonderful and many of the meals are prepared on wood fired grilles. They have an excellent wine list.

So pilgrims can compare the Mencia wines from El Bierzo ( CF) with the Mencia from Barco and Ribeira Sacra ( C. Invierno).
It is interesting to check the differences among them when possible.
Same for white Godello.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
Sounds like a great place to stop. Thank you!

The Bierzo area white wines are delightful. I went to the bodega in Camponaraya with an American couple (who had been there before). Very tasty and cheap.
