Aida Menéndez has died, according to El Progreso. She was the main promoter of the Invierno and is the author of guidebook(s) of this Camino.

I learned this just now, on the Camino de Invierno; A Pobra do Brollón. I can't link the news article, unfortunately.

That’s very sad news. It was in A Probra do Brollón (apr2018) ; that I was shown the guide book she wrote for the Invierno /winter way.

She was a good help to me when I wrote the English guide in 2010... she drove out to meet me on the road, and took me on a looooong wine-tasting drive round the neighborhood. May she rest in peace.

I unfortunately have never heard of her. WIthout reading any other thoughts that are written here anyone who would do all the work involved to write a guidebook and especially for a camino that is far less traveled must have been blessed with the true spirit of camino and have been a person that positively touched many lives. This world needs more people like her.

Here is a nice tribute to Aida Menéndez in the Correo Gallego. She was quite the champion of the Invierno and very much a part of a long campaign to establish the Invierno’s historical authenticity and to get official recognition from the Pilgrims’ Office. RIP.
