A long way off

Time of past OR future Camino
CF 2016 (May/June)
I've been following the forum for quite sometime, but only recently joined. I am drawn to walking the Camino, but am too tethered to my work and other commitments to break free for any length of time any time soon - sigh. My wife and I plan to walk the Camino Frances when I retire in five years (I'm a university professor), but I'm not sure I can wait. Is there a favorite segment that people would suggest? Somewhere I read recommendations for the last 100 km of the Camino Portuguese. While I would like to get my Compostela eventually, there is no rush on that.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Hello Kuznitz,

I do not believe there is such a segment that is a favourite to all pilgrims, so my advice would be to start at St Jean Pied de Port as soon as possible. Return each year and recommence where you finished the previous year. It then and only then when you reach Santiago that you will know in your own mind if you have a favourite segment. Other pilgrims views are not yours and never will be.
" Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the one's you did do " MARK TWAIN.
Just beware the next HOLY YEAR is in 2021 it will be very very busy.
Buen Camino.........Keith.

When I started thinking of doing my Camino we planned on doing it in the future - then I could not wait so we decided to bring it forward - now I am counting down the days - fine tuning body and pack - and wishing that really I did not have to come back - the world us a large Camino as it is not just a start and an end - so do what you can today as who knows what will happen tomorrow

Keith and Larry: Thank you both for your replies. Part of the problem for me is finding the time and part of the problem is that my wife and I love to travel...with a rather long list of places we want to go (and will probably never exhaust). We tend not to return to destinations, which is why I'd prefer to avoid Camino Frances and save that for when I retire. The Camino is also more a dream of mine, with my wife being a little intimidated by the hike, though she is great shape, both in terms of hiking and biking. I certainly would not want to hike without her. I thought a shorter segment might ease her mind and could possibly be combined with stops elsewhere in Spain or Portugal. I'll keep watching the forums and, like Larry, possibly move up our journey.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy your Camino, Larry....or as they say Buen Camino.

Thank you Kuznitz - the strange things is that since I started my planning this Camino and having spoken to many friends who want to do the Camino I have now started planning my 2016 Camino as well - to be on te Camino and free from teh cares of life is something I now feel part of my life - my second Camino will be on my 60th Birthday a good way to celebrate a milestone - so while only 2016 and while I have not even done this Camino it is feeling a long way away - but we all do what we feel is correct and tight - so enjoy the Camino enjoy living
