It seems latest way is from Reading (to Santander via Southampton) according to this Guardian Article.
I have made a web-app for it but still waiting for Google to activate all the Sat Nav links
Yeah getting lost can be fun but this thread is not about getting lost (personally) but the OP is concerned with her FAMILY losing contact - so I gave a dead set easy solution.
No stress involved as the family can check once a day/week or 24/7 - up to them!
That is what I was referring to ie Google Maps.
The walker and the family at home both use the same Sat Nav route (directions). The walker uses it (as needed) to guide them along the path and the family in USA watches her/him move along the trail
Seems to me that you need to explain first of all what YOU are using to GUIDE you all the way across Spain because surely if it is worth its salt it will HAVE the tracking feature as an "add-on".
In other words it is all very well for your family to say "look here is mum in the middle of Spain...
So for most living in London etc there was a long trip to Dartmouth for starters - and the destination is not clear either, simply Saint James.
Also I wonder just how many they "brought back" - it seems they walked as a group of 100?
Thanks for your reply. I am OK with the Sat Nav directions but yes I agree that the walker needs an internet connection for the family to see where she/he is.
My experience is not in Spain but on Greek Islands and using a sim card purchased OUTSIDE of Greece gave access to all the Carriers...
Thanks for pointing that out - so that means if you share your Sat Nav directions with the family (as well as your location permission) they can "walk" the trail along with you and no internet connection required?
Anybody tried that?
My hobby is to enhance these Street View panos into "virtual tours" along with flyovers, sat nav, elevations etc but it is a big job and I tend to get bored and head off to another trail (or country) and come back later. At present I am doing last 6 days of Frances (from O Cebreiro) and it was...
If you are into spending time doing prep then the best way is to actually LOOK at the trails in Google Maps via Street View panos - there are 200 billion of them - you will find a great number of trail "types"
This article explains the confusion here - it's about boat routes old and new and the current ones no longer go to the NW tip of Spain (to the Inglis route) but to Santander - so may as well walk the Norte from there
But it finally joins in to Frances as I understand (not got that far with my Web-Apps yet), so will the problem simply get transferred to Santiago itself?
Yes this is what I was doing using OutdoorActive as stated above.
To use simply press START and put in pocket and at end press STOP
Then you can import to Google Earth as both a STATIC file of the route and as a dynamic file so when you play the file it goes at correct speeds and pauses where...
Yes it is confusing and with respect it would be better if the OP simply said what she WANTS, but if she really is after a recorder (eg to import into Google Earth and make a flyover?) then OutdoorActive is the one I use for such tasks.
She can actually PAUSE it for a coffee break or simply...
