Enjoyed your report about your first day on the Portuguese coastal route. I hiked it on Sept last year, and recall how the boardwalk along the beach was unusable in some areas. Had to switch to hiking sandals and ended up with blisters my first day. But I loved the sea breeze and views! Bom...
I hiked the Portuguese coastal route from Porto to Santiago, including Senda Litoral, last year Sept 21-Oct 7. Was a great time to hike. The weather was good but unseasonably warm then. Bom Camiño!
It was such a great experience and I loved the route I picked! But the sun and heat was relentless and I did complain about it. I sent my raincoat and a few other items ahead to SdC since it looked like I wasn’t going to need them. When I read about the rains and flooding just a week later...
I hiked Porto to Santiago coastal and senda Litoral routes, and spiritual variant from Sept 21- Oct 6, and had hot, sunny weather with no rain. Apparently it poured rain the last two weeks of October and they had flooding. Hard to predict what Oct, 2024 will be like.
I’m not a dr, but had a similar medical issue so will share what helped me finish the Camiño. I hiked Porto to SdC this past Sept-Oct on the coastal route. Everything was great (except a few blisters) until I reached Viana do Castelo, a little farther north than where you are. I had severe pain...
I also completed my Portuguese Coastal Pilgrimage last week (5-10) and agree with your comments. TopSantiago was easy to work with a coordinate pick up and delivery of my backpack for a few days, then they picked up and stored the ‘extra’ items I decided to ship ahead to SdC. I also took the...
I just returned from 15 days hiking the Portugal Camino, Coastal Route, and here’s what I brought that I didn’t need (and paid $50.00 to ship ahead to pick up later in Santiago!)
Spork
Buen Camino diary
Beirleys Guidebook
Fanny /waist pack (it didn’t work well with my backpack so I found a...
I’m in Lisbon now, and have finished the Portugal Camino coastal route on Thursday. I’m flying out of Lisbon on Tuesday morning, 10-10, and would love to donate my walking poles to anyone who can use them. I can leave them behind at the Lisbon airport in the lost and found! Let me know if...
How exciting for you! I just finished Porto to Santiago along the Senda Litoral, Coastal Route, and Spiritual Variant. Here’s what I can share with you that might help.
It’s HOT here! Not sure what the weather will be when you start, but the sun beating down on you all day is exhausting...
Appreciate your comments, and validating that it was an issue and came on totally unexpectedly. I’m going to my dr when I return home to confirm what the issue is, and learn what I can do to try and prevent it next time I set off on a long journey.
I just finished the Portugal Camino, coastal route and spiritual variant, and used Top Santiago to transport my bags a few days that were going to be hot and a long walking day. They were very helpful and easy to work with. The other big transport company wanted to charge me $15.00 / day since...
Thank you so much for sharing your similar situation and remedies. I’ve been doing the same things you mentioned and it’s helped. Tomorrow (Thursday) is my final day (Padron to Santiago), so will be heading home soon to rest it.
