Planning our 1st Camino Trip for March 2023

Welcome and so happy you chose the Norte as your first Camino. It was mine and I love it so much, I have walked 3 times and will be returning to the same area this May. One thing that you should not miss - if you have time to go is this amazing church near Bilbao. It is not on the Camino, so...

How fit do you have to be?

Just start. Don't be afraid to get a bus or train to a hotel and then back to where you stopped and carry on. You can do the Camino in 10-15km increments if you are willing to 'commute' and as you walk you will get fitter. The people that I have seen start the slowest, end the strongest!

    Northern way-el Norte

There is a guide book on the Northern Caminos. They have recently re walked most of the Northern Caminos and a great perspective on their podcast. http://northerncaminos.com/podcast.html Podcast Episode 29 How I spent my summer was fun to listen to, but also very very informative. Enjoy!

Camino Frances - SJPP to Muxia

I just hiked the beginning of the Norte. The coastal paths from Bidart in France west to Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Hendaye then over the border near Irun to Hondarribia and Pasai then into San Sebastian/Donostia. They were coastal paths that gave you a wonderful view of the ocean for all 4 days...

El Camino Frances or El Camino del Norte in April/May

I did the Norte in May 2011, and I only had a few days of rain in 5 weeks. The weather was very warm earlier that year, 28-30 degrees Celsius on the Norte on April 1, 2011. I watched the weather quite closely as my Camino was approaching. My second Norte was Sept-Oct 2013, also beautiful...

Please help me decide which way to go!!!!

Jim is right! Also, I always take the opportunity to promote the Norte! (It is the only route I have done, but that is because I love it!) The ocean views, the harbour villages, the hours of solitary walking (no other pilgrim in sight) and the companionship at the hostels! So much joy!

Anyone starting between 5-8 February 2016 from SJPDP?

I am thinking of starting on the 1st of Feb. But not sure if it will be SJPP or Burgos. I am going back Apr 1 with a friend and may want to do SJPP to Burgos with her. Enjoy the winter camino!

    I'd Love some help

I flew from Vancouver to Paris, then took a train to Heyende. But I walked the Norte from Irun. I am dreaming about doing it again, and found Vancouver to Bilbao return for $1128. Enjoy your planning and your Camino.
