I was going over a journal of my last Camino and was reminded about a really unique eatery just off the plaza called , The Black Cat , or el gato negra Everything was local including the in filtered wine . No very big but welcoming. I’ve been there twice and will go again. Anybody have their...
I’m starting the CF in SJPP in a few weeks for the first time and generally like and plan to walk early in the morning e.g 530-6. I also can’t imagine walking for long without having had a coffee. Is coffee generally available at most hotels, pensions, albergues that early?
Hi, my family is hiking the entire Camino Frances this May and June. We are all very excited. If you subscribe to the New York Times, there is this guest essay that was written just a few days ago by Andrew McCarthy and he writes very eloquently about what walking the Camino has meant for him...
Hi all,
I'm thinking about making a dinner reservation at Arrea! which is about a 15 minute taxi ride outside of Los Arcos. Has anyone been there for lunch or dinner? I'd love to hear some feedback on the experience.
Best,
Jeffrey
In the late 70's, I traveled in Portugal. In almost every bar I went to in Lisbon, there was always a crockpot behind the counter with snails for eating. My daughters like to eat snails. They will be joining me in Porto for a combination of the Litoral and Central to Santiago. Are snails...
I am starting the Camino Portugues later this month. I am Vegan and am wondering how difficult it will be to find vegan food and meals on the Camino. I am considering bringing freeze-dried meals but they would take a lot of space in my pack. I enjoy simple whole foods like salads, beans...
On a hot day after “windmill hill”( west of Pamplona) I was sitting in a bar sipping a cold water, when a young perigrina advised a new cooler. She said “you can order a hot tea in a glass and a bowl of ice. Next add some sugar and add the ice , it’s very refreshing” I smiled and we have...
Something unusual I saw today. A Spanish bar manager in a Dubai hotel has created a cocktail named after and apparently inspired by the Camino. A mix which includes smoked beetroot, vodka and lime juice. My first thought on reading it was "Why not orujo for authenticity?" but on further...
Before the Camino, I really didn't like coffee. Sacrilege, I know. Even now, I rarely drink it; I'm a herbal tea aficionado and lover.
But all that changes as soon as I set foot on the Camino. I became wooed and mesmerized by all things Cafe con Leche {and freshly squeezed orange juice, to be...
So with little more to add to the wealth of information offered here, I am thinking we need a good pizza place recommendation list! Would love to see other's thoughts and suggestions...
I have two places:
Arzua (Multiple Caminos including Frances): Il Fornacio - most definitely the best pizza...
Ill do the camino in september:

What restaurants do you suggest in each city?
We enjoyed staying and dining at Hospederia San Martin Pinario in 2019. As we are planning a May walk from Porto to Santiago this year we are finding that San Martin Pinario has only single pilgrim rooms available on our dates. Is it possible to stay elsewhere and still have dinner in the...
Hello all from AACS-CV,
A pilgrim with coeliac disease asks which albergues on Levante have kitchen with cooking utensils, and it is dificult for us to answer to this new question.
Does any of you have experience about that?
There has been a lot of discussion about the best styles of tortilla in another thread recently. I ate a lot of it - good, bad and just ok - in the last month myself! I just saw this article on the BBC website. I hadn't known that government guidelines for making it were quite so specific...
I booked a bed at Gite Makila, but they don't offer dinner. As this will be day 0 for me, I wouldn't mind having some company for dinner. Do any of the gites allow people to join their communal dinner if they aren't staying there?
Alternatively, are there some good options for casual places for...
This story is in the Guardian today. The change in climate is affecting the availability of acorns and hence the production of jamón ibérico bellota.

During my first Camino I was introduced to the scrumptious tortilla. You know that thing that looked like a pie made with eggs and potatoes. Well today, the Mrs. (@J Willhaus )made one for breakfast. What a delight!
What Camino food do you miss?
This weeks issue of the popular Spanish site vivecamino.com features an article about typical dishes of the different regions along the Camino. (Use Google translate to convert into English).
Buen provecho
I just came across this article in La Voz de Galicia. I thought it might interest folks when they arrive at Santiago, shocked by how expensive most things have gotten.
Inflation and the general cost of living has indeed increased, and not only in our home towns and countries. It is a global...
