We plan to start our Camino in Salamanca mid April. Where can we obtain our passports? At the Salamanca Cathedral? We would also like to buy rain gear and walking poles in either Madrid or Salamanca. Any recommendations? We are counting the days and cannot wait to be back in Spain. Buen Camino!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
There are branches of Decathlon in most big cities. They are a great sports, camping, hiking store. I got all my equipment there for my walk last year. They are often a litle out of town. Here's the Spansih website https://www.decathlon.es/

Lots of religious shops around the Plaza Mayor - some at least should have walking poles but they will be timber ones.

But, there is a Millets in Salamanca!! Whoodda thought it!! All the hiking gear you would want to see.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
I got a replacement (additional) passport from the hospitalero at the municipal albuergue where I stayed a night. And there is a Decathlon in Salamanca - it's a bit out of the centre though - a Camino friend went there and bought walking poles.
Buen Camino!

A thought: Find out what you want at home and then buy the same items online (in the EU, not outside for complicated reasons) and have them sent to yourself general delivery / post restante to a post office where you you arrive in Spain.

What about Tourist office in Salamanca, on The Plaza Mayor. I think they have Credencials. There is a El Corte Ingles store in the middle of Madrid, easy to find, where ever you stay in. On 6 floor there is a sport department. We bought walking poles there 9.99/ each. Rain gear also to be bought there.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Thanks for the information. We have a day in Madrid and will try these stores.
