Am arriving St. Jean 31st March (Easter Sunday), and start walking April 1st. Any suggestions about how busy St. Jean is likely to be, and whether it's necessary to book a hostel?

I understand not wanting to book ahead while on your walk, but since you know you're staying in St. Jean that night anyway, why not just book in advance, especially given it's Easter Sunday?

As its Easter Sunday I would book, and make sure I had food with me!

Beware of someone slapping a "poisson d'avril" on your backpack.

Remember that the poisson has an especial significance when the 1st April falls following Easter Sunday. It means you went fishing on the holiest day of the year!

I always book the first night on any Camino - it's pretty much the only day you know for definite where you're going to be.
That's just me though . . .

Pardonez moi... I FEAR is in English whence Institut Français d'élevage d'animaux rares is clearly en Français
and we know that no self-respected French would EVER resort to English and intentiaonally to boot
