I note that Scoot Airlines seem to have a new base type early bird fare from Aussie to Singapore.
Each way, Brisbane A$149, Sydney A$169. Maybe fm other centres too, in at least, Aug/Sep/Oct 2016.
In 2015 I used Scoot to get me return to Singas, then found a return fare to Europe from there to match. Lots more airlines servicing Singas, more competition, therefore lower prices.
At that time the best deal was with Finnair, 12hr daylight stopover in Helsinki.
Never been to Finnland so that was good!
Using this method you must decide and book your Singas to Europe return legs first.
Then book your Aussie to Singas leg to fit (giving yourself a day or so in Singas each way as a treat or break if you so desire).
It gave me both 'ease of travel' and financial benefits.
