Camino Frances (not sure when)
Can someone help me and give me a detailed explanation of the botany from Pamplona to Estella. I love botany and I'm curious what I'm getting myself into.

I have seen an older Field Guide published in England, something like "Flora and Fauna of the Iberian Peninsula- a "field guide" which weighs about 1.5 kilo! This is something sadly missing since most Spanish people do not recognize their own wildflowers-questions concerning the names of flowers are usualy answered "flor". I can usually manage since much is similar or identical to our own Mediterranean plants. Should you be walking Springtime be ready for an amazing exhibition say entire hillsides covered with Lobelia. A sharp eye will also discover wild primavera and mandrake. It is wonderful.

Out of the top of my head...

asparagus
rapeseed
almond trees
fig trees
cutely pruned olive trees
fennel
Encinas (quercus family, did not expect to find it so high up north, just past Estella)
vineyards, of course
gorse

Hope this helps. There were some good discussions, but I dropped the ball

Not posting much, but I'm going to the forum for a kind of solace...
I'm not doing much internet period because my 2 year old grandson just went into hospice and it's a heartbreaking time.

I'm remembering all the reasons I did the camino this last Sept/Oct, carrying his sweet soul with me all along The Way.

I knew instinctively I needed to do something to prepare for these coming days, tho I still thought he'd survive this cancer back then...but I wanted to do something to help make me stronger for my family, as the head of my family, and I picked the camino, and it has stood me in good stead, I'm here to say: the camino helps you live your life: in the darkest days I remember, viscerally, you just have to put one foot in front of the other and trust all will be well.

On the other hand, I'm a little more reliant on red wine to dull this recent grief since returning...got into a bit of a wine habit there, impossible not to when traveling through miles of country bursting with ripe purple grapes. Never been an alcoholic before, guess it's never too late :(

Anyways, love to you all, it's amazing how lighthearted and ordinary discussions can help at this time. I come here often for solace, like i said. And memories...
