Hi, everyone,

Ender and his friends are at it again. They have just placed a cross at the highest point of the pass between Poladura and Pajares. Pictures here:

Taken from this thread on the Spanish forum:

He has also finished the wooden bridge over the marshy section right before you reach the town of Pajares:

pictures hopefully can be seen here:

Combined with the Primitivo, this is one of the most spectacular caminos. Buen camino, Laurie

p.s. The links originally posted here went dead when the Spanish forum changed to a new site about 6 months ago. I hope I have gotten the new links in place, but if there is a problem, let me know.

If at all possible, I will go on this climb and finally meet the magnificent Ender!
Oct. 27, 11 a.m., leaving from Poladura de Tercia, Leon, climbing to the topmost peak of the San Salvador to dedicate the new "cruz de ferro." Looks to be a fun outing!

Anyone want to come along and help represent the Anglophonos?

Hi, Reb,

Give him a hug for me. He is a wonderful guy, please tell him I send many many congratulations.

For those of you who don't know him, in addition to the cross and the new bridge, Ender also put up all the markings so dopes like me don't get lost, established and signed a quicker route to the albergue at Pajares (based on discussions with the old folks in Pajares), and re-routed the Camino from Campomanes so that it passes the church of Santa Cristina de Lena and is not on the national highway.

Lest you all think he is only a man of physical action, he also has a website dedicated to the Salvador, caminodelsalvador.net, along with an illustrated guide (translated into English http://caminodelsalvador.net/?cat=13 ).

It's truly humbling, there's just no way to thank him enough. Buen camino, Laurie

p.s. Reb, I would absolutely love to be there for the dedication, but I'll have to settle for the next best thing, that is returning to the Salvador sometime soon!

I WANT to walk San Salvador and I am going to walk it - but not now. Next year, yes.

Hi, Annie,
Are you planning another spring camino? You'll have to watch the weather to keep an eye out for snow if you do. I was on the Salvador in mid- June this summer and it was glorious. Great time of year, and late June on the Primitivo is perfect also.

And Fatma is totally correct, you will love it.

Buen camino, Laurie

Hello Laurie,

next time I will be walking in June or maybe from mid August 2012. Haven´t decided yet which camino. But if San Salvador I would like to walk it in June either 2013 or 2014.

On my bucket list right now Baztan, San Salvador, Primitivo and Invierno. Maybe Madrid.

Norte hopefully in August 2016 when we will be celebrating birthdays.

I love the Frances also with all the crowds. I love crowds!

Buen camino!

just a small note; the bridge Ender placed can be found just inmediately before coming to Poladura, it is a particularly boggy area, up to now there was a tree trunk for crossing the stream. It was not easy at all to bring all necessary materials for the bridge, he has been struggling for a few months.

Even more important than the bridge are the steps; it is a particularly grassy, slippery slope, the perfect place to land on your bum and end up wet!

I wish I could be there on Sunday 27th, the stretch between Poladura and Pajares is just breathtaking!!!

Hi, amancio,

I walked this way in June, through the boggy mess and up the slippery hill. This is a real improvement for pilgrims and yet another labor of love for Ender and co.

Can't wait to go back to cross on the bridge and place a stone at the cross! Buen camino, Laurie

Me neither! I was there at the beginning of may, it was all covered in snow, we had a blizzard and lots of mist, yet we did not get lost with Ender's signposting - in fact, he walked with us all the way and we even painted a few yellow arrows.

I saw your photos of around mid June and was really jealous, you picked the right time of the year.

Just another excuse to go back to this most beautiful stretch of every single Camino de Santiago related route, it is just unbelievable!

Ender has told me that the ceremony scheduled for this Saturday (27th) has to be postponed. There is a competing political event that makes rescheduling necessary.

Hope it's still during the fall, because he says the mountains are stupendously brilliant in their colors right now!

Buen camino, Laurie

The links on my original post were no longer valid, because the foroperegrinos site had a major re-launching about 5-6 months ago. I have gone back and tried to find the correct links and placed them in my original post, but if there is a problem, let me know. As you may know, I am not the tech genius of the forum. :) Buen camino, Laurie
