Thank you

The Spanish farmacia network is very good at making sure you will always have access to a farmacia. If you find one closed (some close for lunch, some don’t, for instance) there will always be a sign on the door or window telling you where the closest “farmacia de guardia” is located. That’s the designated go-to place that will be open. There may be ”de guardia” for daytime, and one for nighttime, but the sign on the window will tell you. In tiny rural areas, this gets complicated, but I remember that once in Fuenterroble on the Vdlp, the pharmacist drove into Salamanca to get what I needed and brought it back in the afternoon.

I have always been extremely happy with the service I get in Spanish farmacias. Before iphones, a pharmacist let me use their computer/internet in a pinch when I had to contact home. I also freuquently ask them for their favorite restaurants and have gotten directions to some very good places!

Beware if you are in Portugal, there seems to be some kind of work action going on with the employees. My pharmacia in Estoril which is normally packed with customers is now only open one day a week. .

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I did a little googling and see the Diario de Noticias’report about a strike. This article was dated Sept. 12, though, so negotiations must not be going well.

This is important information for those walking in Portugal, because the paper says the strike extends throughout central and northern Portugal. Thanks, Don!

You can look on Google Maps for farmacias in the town you will be going to. It will show the opening times.

Yes Google gets it right most of the time but not always esp. holiday time.
I remember at various points in my last Camino when I was just looking for some take out food. I would go to place after place that Google assured me was open, only to find they were all closed. Eventually, I just gave up on Google for helping to find open take out places.

Sure! I guess I find it accurate about 70/80% of time. Though that’s largely the daytime businesses rather than the nighttime economy. But yes I wouldn’t over rely on it. I just asked a bloke what time his bar shut and he said ‘when the last person leaves’! There’s a lot of that here, especially as we move onto “low season’.
