GAUCELMO

Hi all,
A few years ago I had walked the Camino Frances and stayed at Gaucelmo the confraternity refugio in Rabanal. It had been one of those special moments along the Camino.
This year I will serve the pilgrims as a warden (voluntario) in the second half of May.
"To give someting back" is my motivation.
End of April I will be on my way and walk to Rabanal.
After my time spent as a warden I shall walk on to Santiago, as Chaucer has it "the Holy Martyr for too seke".
I intend to create a weblog on my adventure.
Been busy on it for some time now.
In due course I will let you know, sothat you can follow me on the Camino.
Buen Camino

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Sounds great, I'd love to follow your experiences both walking the Camino and as a voluntario...

I have stayed at Guacelmo twice and now we also will be serving as wardens during the last 2 weeks of September. We too will walk part of the Camino before taking up our duties and will then continue on to Santiago afterwards. It is a very special place. I will read your Blog is interest! Anne

It's about 24 days along in Rabanal del Camino on the Frances Route, and lies between Astorga and Molinaseca. Gaucelmo is an albergue there run by the CSJ (Confraternity of St. James) http://www.csj.org.uk

Hi John -

You should stay there if your etapas work out that way.

Buen camino. Be safe and go well.

Indeed! Gaucelmo is a wonderful albergue. I've stayed there on both my Caminos and thoroughly enjoyed it. I recommend it highly.
Buen Camino,

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
I stayed at Gaucelmo on my first camino too. I walked the 37 kms from Hospital do Orbigo, and experienced a spring cloudburst just after passing "The Cowboy Bar". Felt wonderfully welcome as the volunteers registered me, then carried my pack as they escorted me to my bunk.

This year is my opportunity to give back to the Camino. I will be hospitalero in Granon, just 6.5 kms past Santo Domingo de la Calzada from April 1 to 15. I am feeling the same excitement and trepidation that I felt before my first Camino. The church run albergue in Granon is "Traditional". They are strictly donativo, and serve a communal meal every night. I feel blessed and challenged by the honour of upholding the high standard of service and cleanliness there.

And after Granon, I'll bus back to Seville and walk the Via de la Plata.

Greetings and welcome to all who pass by.

David, Victoria, Canada.

Both adventures sound wonderful! Granon is a remarkable albergue and I'm sure with your experience and positive attitude, you will be a great help there. And buen camino on the VDLP - I am envious - walked it in 07 and will return in 11.

Buen suerte!

I also stayed at Grañon - and found it to be one of the most rewarding experiences on the Camino. Best of luck there!
Buen Camino,

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
