Hi, I'm Jackie doing the camino this year in May

Two of us are walking from Porto to Santiago from mid May, expecting to take 2 weeks. What is the advice on pre booking in this Holy year? Is there a particularly busy time :?:

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Numbers will increase on the Camino Portugues too and the further into the year you intend to go the busier it will be. If you intend to stay in hotels or hostals rather than take pot luck and see what beds are available when you arrive at your destination then I'd definitely book ahead.

Good luck

Hi Jackie.....I done the Portugese camino from Porto to Santiago at the end of September. It's a beautiful walk. It was very quiet when I done it,but met a few more pilgrims and we ended up walking together. The markings in Portugal are great .Not as good but suffecient in Spain. Just be careful for the first day after you leave Porto as there is a lot of road walking and traffic can be busy. Nothing too serious but be careful Hers a tip. If you can't get into an alburge or in one or two towns there is none , The tradition is that you can stay in the firestations. The "Bombardios" ( not sure if thats the right way to spell it). They will let you stay no problem...Enjoy your camino

Hi,
I am sorry I don't have any answer for you Jackie, but I find myself in the same situation as you, doing the camino in may. But we are thinking about starting from Tui ( is that a good starting point ? ), so that we can take it easy. I was wondering if anyone recommends any books that has good practical info on the camino, maybe with maps, and updated info about albergues, and so on.
Thanks a lot,
and Good luck

My sister may be joining us from Switzerland (we are from Australia) and may start at Tui but we've just chosen Porto as our starting point. I'm doing most of my research via the internet as there is so much information out there and I don't want to be carrying loads of stuff. I've downloaded a walking guide with accommodation contacts this way. With so many people out there I hardly think any of us will get lost! Hope to see you on the way.
