Hola! Well we are booked and preparing for our first Camino in September this year. We are doing the Camino Frances from Sarria to Santiago and we are bringing my 3 yr old along. We've decided to bring a hiking buggy to use to push my son but are not sure if our normal pram ( a jogger with 3 very large foam wheels and a normal seat) will be suitable or whether we should invest in a hiking buggy (the Thule or Croozer brand)? If anyone has walked this section of the Frances with a hiking buggy, I would very much appreciate your insight.

Many Thanks,

Nat

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

There are groups who sometimes do the last 100 km with wheelchairs - albeit with lots of assistance. So it is possible.

Here are a few threads I found that might be useful:

There are lots more. Try a search with "children" as the topic.

And Buen Camino!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Just a thought: Instead of buying an expensive new buggy, why not think about adapting your existing buggy to make it more versatile. On the hills and rough bits, one of you could pull while one pushes and steers. Some kind of harness and a 3-metre strap+hook would make pulling easier. A three-year-old is pretty heavy, one person pushing uphill occasionally would be very difficult.

Maybe you could get bigger wheels for your buggy. Small wheels get stuck easily. There's a reason that tractors have big wide wheels. Skateboards have tiny wheels and they get jammed on the smallest obstacles - "cross-country" skateboards, or whatever they call them, have large, soft-tired wheels.

I take my new twin granddaughters out in their twin buggy - they're chubby ladies and that buggy is heavy. My son and his partner are overseas - the buggy went on the plane (Sydney to Stockholm!) as oversized baggage as the babes' baggage.

Have a great time! What a great adventure for your son.

It might be worth your while to look into information on cycling the Camino. There are some alterations to the route in order to accommodate bicycles. These may be suitable for your buggy.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Thank you! I knew I had read posts before about the types of prams/ chariots used. We are taking it easy with luggage transfers and hotels booked. I'm sure we will do it!

Thanks so much for the advice. The wheels are quite large as it is a jogging pram, and to be honest I'm not sure how I'd go about changing them.....we will take our walk easy and see what happens
