Hi fellow pilgrims.

I am new to this forum. I am planning to walk Camino de Santiago Frances in June 2016. I am visiting some friends in Lyon and Chamonix before I start my Camino. and I was hoping to walk from Chamonix or Lyon to Santiago instead of St Jean Pied de Port, however i couldn't find any information on the route. I was wondering if anyone here had done this route or know someone has. I am having trouble gathering information and any help would be appreciated.

Buen Camino :)

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Welcome to the Forum!

As you mentioned one alternative would be walking not from Chamonix but from Lyon to join the GR65 or Le Puy route. For further discussion/links re this possibility see this earlier Forum thread.

For lots of info/links re the Le Puy route see this Forum topic.

Happy planning !

Ideal pocket guides for during and after your Camino. Each weighs just 40g (1.4 oz).
Hi Dennisying! Welcome to the forum! I wish you a pleasant and fruitful stay on the forum.

There's a camino route starting in Sallanches (not far from Chamonix). For info about it, take a look at: http://chemins.amis-st-jacques/?page_id=833 (click on Sallanches).

Another option would be to walk out of Chamonix using the chemin de l'Arve (either till Sallanches or all the way till Annemasse). For info about that route (not a Camino de Santiago route but other GR route): www.riviere-arve.org/usages/topoguide-chemin-arve.htm

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Here is a pic from 2016, I love the simplicity of the sketch map and directions "1 km climb up, 5km flat, 5km down". I wonder how the prices are now?
Reposted from Wise Pilgrim comments, was hiking with this pilgrim. Don’t follow app,go just a bit further past to well marked turn, not the one with spray painted arrow on stop sign:
