This was a headline in the Gazeta de Vallodolid which I came across today.

It would probably be better described as “Old” Camino route identified.

I have paraphrased using Google translate.

It seems a dig by the University Archaeology Department to the north of the city uncovered the bed of a Roman road on a north west – south east axis.

The road was conventional in terms of Roman construction methods but what surprised the lead archaeologist Sr Anton de Flecha was that arrow carvings were found by the side of the road in surrounding rocks all of which pointed to the north west. The directional arrows were found at regular intervals along the whole length that was excavated.

Sr Flecha said that this was unique in his 30 years field experience and reminded him of the Camino de Santiago which he has twice undertaken.

It would be premature to identify this as a Camino route but they hope to undertake excavations further north in the Province to confirm that they have uncovered a previously unknown or lost Camino route.

He said there is mention in the Codex of a route that has never been satisfactorily explained but his excavations could shed light on this.

Sr Flecha suggested that if confirmed the route would be named the Camino Apriliensis.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Señor Anton de las Flechas Amarillas?
Indeed, that is his full name, but he rarely uses it after having a tough time at primary school with name calling.

.... The antipodean clock is ahead of us here in the UK as indeed you are on many other things. If only my father hadn't cancelled his £10 tickets in the 1960s.
