Hello. I am new to this forum. My partner and I will be leaving from St. Jean April 20th. We are very excited. We walked from Sarria last Year at the end of May. This year we plan on staying at some albergues. I have 2 questions and I know they probably have been asked to death but here goes...
Is a sleeping bag necessary when staying in albergues?
And
Should we be booking places in advance? We have already booked in St. Jean, hotel in Roncesvalles and San Nicolas albergue in Larrasoana.
Thank you in advance:)

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Hi Norah, I always use a sleeping bag but at the end is it your choice if you want to use one.
Last year I left SJPdP at the 18th of April, and the only place I booked was the albergue Orisson. I had no problems to find a place to sleep. At the end it's your decision if you want to book ahead.
Wish you both well and a Buen Camino, Peter.

Thank you so much Peter. We will probably take sleeping bags. We are now trying to find light weight ones available in Canada.
Cheers

Prepare for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island, Oct 27 to Nov 2
I'm partial to the down bags. They are lighter, pack better and since you will be sleeping indoors (hopefully) you don't need to worry about the loss of insulation value if they get wet. Pick one according to you body type. I used a 20 degree F bag while my wife used a 40 degree F with a silk liner. We were both perfectly comfortable in our respective bags and occasionally shared both depending on the conditions.
