Hello, I am 27 days from "boots on the ground" in St Jean. Very excited. Are the inns and auberges the only place that will give you a stamp in your credential? I am staying in some private rooms and hotels along the way and am curious about this.
When you check into your accommodation (even hotels), hand over your credential along with the passport, and it will get stamped. So all businesses along the Frances have a stamp. Stopping for a snack or a coffee or drink in a cafe/bar? You can get your credential stamped. Visiting a church or a cathedral or even some notable historic building? You can get your credential stamped. Even shops you might be using have business stamps.

That's exactly what I do. I keep my passport and my pilgrim credential together in the same zippered pouch, and it's become second nature to hand both over when I'm checking in, whether it's an albergue or a hotel.

I have just posted this on another thread:
For those of us who are sellomaniacs, I suggest in descending order--1) the parish church-- either after the mass, or by asking around for the keyholder, who may have the sello, 2) the ayuntamiento, 3) the police stations, 4) the Centro de Salud, 5) the Correos, 6) any bar or hostal, 7) the farmacia or any business. Spain is a sello-society.

Thank you all so much! I am at ease now. The closer I get to leaving the more anxious I am as so many posts are about the crowds, the overcrowding and the rudeness of the pilgrims. I am putting all this in a box in my brain and only focusing on the awesome time I will have. Plus I am carrying some of my husbands ashes with me and "leaving" him along the trail. 😎

I haven't really read much about rude pilgrims, but every year at this time (and also the beginning of September) there are panicked posts on the forum about crowds and the lack of beds. It will all settle down soon.

This thread may be helpful:

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

In your initial post you used the phrase "boots on the ground"
So you well understand that until boots DO hit the ground everything is perfunctory and supposedly
Assess the situation "on the ground" act accordingly and always have Plans B, C and Z.1234567
Don't worry you got this!👍
Good luck and Buen Camino
